Description: Whittier, CALIFORNIA - Murphy Memorial Hospital - 1938: The Hospital, located on seven acres of Alta Park, opened in 1921 with 55 general and 10 maternity beds. It cost $300,000 to build and was named after the family of its benefactors. It operated for 40 years before closing in 1961, the victim of more modern facilities. It was leaked and eventually purchased by Whittier College, initially used as a dormitory and later for other educational facilities. It was vacated in 1981 as unsafe for continued used and sold a rebuilt as Murphy Hill Condominiums. This White Border Era (1915-30), Hand Dated Jan 18, 1935, is in good condition. M. Kashower Co.
