Dr. Walter HohlObstetricsweg (1902-1992) was a famed endocrinologist, a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system and its secretions of hormones. After studying in Berlin throughout WWII, Hohlweg became a professor at the Humboldt University of Berline in 1952, and a decade later became head of the hormone laboratory at the University Hospital in Graz. His report titled "Hohlweg and Junkmann from the Main Laboratory of Schering-Kahlbaum" demonstrates their experiments that the gonadotropic function of the pituitary gland is controlled by a center in the central nervous system, which asserts their previously unknown connection. Furthermore, Hohlweg famously worked with Hans Herloff Inhoffen to develop effective oral estrogen which is still used in birth controls today. A prize is still awarded in Hohlweg's name every two years from the German Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
