While her book illustrations are mildly lyrical, her oil paintings and prints often make dramatic use of sweeping curvilinear forms, indicative of Art Nouveau style. Flory used these dynamic lines to generate powerful visual movement. " "Flory was born in 1882 in Newark. She attended Denison University and art schools in Ohio and New York City. She Studied under artists Howard Pyle, Winold Reiss and pioneer photographer Clarence Hudson White. Although best known for her published pen and ink drawings, she worked in oil, watercolor and etching. In the 1920s she illustrated seven books by the late Charles S. Brooks and one by Helen Haiman Joseph. In the early years of Cleveland Play House she designed sets, costumes, programs and co-produced marionette shows. She succeeded her husband as a member of the board of trustees and was an honorary member of the board at the time of her death. Mrs. Flory was active in civil groups such as Planned Parenthood of Cleveland; the Women's City Club, the Cleveland Institute for Art, and the Cleveland Art Association." PP
