I started working the newspaper off with some hand lotion and it has definitely softened the leather and taken most of the newspaper off but I didn't remove all of it because it occurred to me that some people prefer things to be presented as discovered. The newspaper was probably what this was stored in and didn't show any dates but it was brown and brittle from age and definitely was in English language so no leads there for authentic discovery I would say.
