Description: This lovely vintage dress was worn for a wedding on 4/21/1946 in Huntington, West Virgina. It is composed of sheer cotton organdy with a rayon satin underdress slip. The organdy dress features a fitted drop waist bodice with a sheer upper bodice accented with a ruffle. A ruffle also accents the bottom of the long sleeves and the bottom of the full gathered skirt. Button loops and covered buttons serve as the closure at the back. The underdress slip is sleeveless and has a metal center back zipper and also has a train. A snap located on the shoulders of the dress and underdress fastens the two together. --Measurements-- I would estimate it to fit like a size XS in today's sizing. For reference, shown photographed on a mannequin with bust 33"/waist 24"/ hips 35". Compare with your own measurements and allow for some room. Measurements taken on the dress while flat and doubled when applicable.Bust: 33" Waist area: 27" measured 6" below the underarm Hips: openWaist area to hem center front: 43"Waist area to hem center back: 78" trainShoulder to hem: approx 54"Shoulder to shoulder: 13.5"Sleeve length: approx 23.5" --Condition--The dress is now in overall very good to excellent vintage condition. As found, it was deeply yellowed and discolored, the bust measured 30" and the arms and wrists were too small for a small mannequin. I gave a lot of love and attention to this dress over the course of several days and successfully restored the color back to a soft off-white cream shade (I used Retro Wash and Sodium Perborate- the same thing as Retro Clean) and then used organdy from my stash to add narrow bands to the side of the bodice and sleeve seams to enlarge. As found, both the dress and underdress had left side zippers. I decided to remove those zippers and add a center back metal zipper to the underdress and vintage button and loops to the center back of the dress. The slip dress has several pin holes/small holes/ needle marks, and some discoloration remains after cleaning. The organdy has some small pin holes as well as a few remaining discolorations, but both are vastly improved, and I would consider the dress wearable with gentle vintage care due to the lightweight 78-year-old sheer cotton organdy. I created videos on the cleaning and remaking of this dress for both Instagram and a longer one on Youtube- check them out if interested (and subscribe! :) Happy to answer questions.Ships via USPS Ground Select rather compressed in a box to economize on shippingInternational ships via Ebay's International shipping programWill require steaming/ pressing after shipment.
