B. Morton, were preparing to establish a tile factory in Bushnell. The same paper states that Cleveland & Son had sold their Bardoulph pottery to Taylor and Easton. Although this announcement was somewhat premature, the Cleveland & Son firm was sold the following year (1878). William Allbert returned to Bardolph in 1878 when he and J. F. Easton purchased the pottery from his father-in-law. Few pieces of stoneware manufactured by this firm are available for study. The stenciled capacity mark had a distinctive wreath around it. After 1 year of partnership, Allbert purchased Easton's interest and took full control of the pottery. Once Allbert had become the sole proprietor, he began to improve the facilities, enlarge the building and put up another kiln. Very few pieces of stoneware from Allbert's pottery are known. The crocks showed a capacity surrounded by a wreath.Source: http://illinoisarchaeology.com/ceramics/McDonough%20County%20Report.pdf Crocks make excellent gifts for any occasion and continue to become rare and are found being passed on as family heirlooms from generation to generation. These vintage glazed, hand-thrown, kiln-fired crocks were used prior to the introduction of refrigeration. American households used them to hold food such as butter, salted meat, and pickled vegetables. These stoneware crocks were durable, economical and watertight even without the glaze.
