VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER PHOTO FRAME, E.T. BRYANT, LONDON IMPORT, 1894

Description: Here we have a beautiful, ornate Victorian Sterling Silver Photo Frame. The visible picture is oval and measures 2.5ins by 2ins. The easel back frame is sculpted with scrolls and flowers and has a blank cartouche at the top. The two pronged strut at the back is also hallmarked silver. The photo frame is continental in origin, probably from Hanau in Germany although French in style, and was imported into Britain by Edwin Thompson Bryant and assayed in London in 1894. Edwin Bryant registered his importers’ mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in London in 1889. He specialised in bringing in small silver items from continental Europe, mostly tableware and personal items, that were in very different designs to those produced in Britain. He remained in business until around 1910. Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 130 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs as these form part of the description. The photo frame is 15cm / 6.1ins high, 10cm / 3.9ins wide and 11cm / 4.3ins deep with the strut full extended. It weighs in at 98.1g / 3.46oz including the glass. The hallmarks, at the bottom of the frame, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter T for 1894, the letter F for Foreign, showing that it is an imported item, and the E T B importers' mark for Edwin Thompson Bryant.
