Description: USAF Titan III-C, Solid Propellant Boosters (1963), Photo + Press Releases, S/4 (LV-003-1) This listing includes a photo and documents describing the Solid Propellant Booster motors on the USAF Titan III-C launch vehicle. Like the boosters on the Space Shuttle launch vehicle and Artemis Space Launch System (known as Solid Rocket Boosters) they provided initial thrust for launch. While the Titan III-C was to be used for launching the Dyna-Soar, a space plane program that was cancelled, the majority of launches from 1965 to 1982 were Department of Defense satellites. The Titan III-C boosters were attached to a Titan core vehicle and provided liftoff thrust for the first 115 seconds of flight at which time they were jettisoned. The Titan core stage engines ignited 5 seconds before the boosters were jettisoned and then continued providing thrust. Each of the Titan III-C boosters was 75 feet tall and 120 inches in diameter. The booster motors were manufactured by United Technology Center (a division of United Aircraft Corporation) under contract to the Martin Company (later Martin Marietta), prime contractor to the Air Force for the Titan III-C. The boosters were shipped to Caper Kennedy in 5 sections and assembled on the launch pad. This listing includes the following 4 items: - Color photo of the launch of a Titan III-C showing booster ignition. It is printed on glossy paper stock (not photo grade) and includes the United Technology Center (UTC) identification at the top. - UTC Press Release titled "The Solid Booster", authored by Jack Vogel, Quality Assurance Manager for UTC. Provides a detailed description of the booster motors. - UTC Press Release (1/25/64) describing the Ignition system for the booster motors - UTC Press Release (7/20/63) titled "Titan III-C Solid-Propellant Motors at a Glance" Photo, Press Releases measure 8.5 x 11 inches Discount We offer a 10% discount on purchases of 2 or more items. About Space Flight Collectibles The memorabilia we offer in our store was collected while I was a teenager and wrapped up in the enthusiasm of those early years of the space program. Much of what we offer was collected as part of the research I was doing for projects in local science fairs. The memorabilia in our store are all original and include NASA and contractor brochures, photos, technical reports, press kits and commemorative collectibles. We will be adding new memorabilia on a regular basis. Subscribe to our newsletter to receive updates on new arrivals. Whether you have an interest in the space program from a historical or technical perspective, or just looking to give someone a unique gift, we're sure you will find the memorabilia in our store of interest. Our store is dedicated to the memory of my parents John and Lorette who never stopped supporting me in my interest in the space program. In July 1969, my Father and I were fortunate to receive a tour of the Kennedy Space Center 3 weeks before the launch of Apollo 11. In this photo I am joined by our NASA host to view the Saturn V/Apollo on Launch Pad 39A surrounded by the Mobile Service Structure. In July 1970, I had the opportunity to meet with Wernher von Braun in his office at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC. Dr. von Braun was kind enough to take the time to critique the design I had presented at a local science fair on a space station re-using Gemini and Apollo hardware.
