Description: This fine .900 silver nutmeg shaker is egg shaped and stands on a molded square plinth. I believe it dates to the Biedermeier period and is Danish, German or Austrian. The lid is held in place with a bayonet type latch and features small holes in a star shaped pattern. The unadorned simplicity of this piece shows Biedermeier design at its best and suggests the future Art Deco period. The shaker is 3 1/4" tall x 1 3/8" in diameter at the widest point. The base is 1 1/4" square. The shaker weighs 37 grams. It tests .900 purity and is unmarked. Stock Number SA2D-302
