Description: "); display:inline-block; height:24px; width:24px; transform:rotateZ(180deg);"> Third Issue 10 Cents Fractional Currency PCGS 66 PPQ GEM UNC Fractional bank notes were issued for the first time during the Civil War due to a shortage of coins. Five series of notes were issued between 1862 and 1875. A total of 24 major types were issued, ranging from 3 cents to 50 cents. The first series of notes are called Postage Currency, since the designs were based on the concurrent postage stamps. In 1876, Congress passed an act allowing redemption of fractional notes for silver coins. Most notes are still obtainable, making them a very collectible series. However, notes in high grades are more scarce and sought for. This example is graded by PCGS as a 66PPQ GEM UNC. It is within the 1863 series of notes and has extraordinary detail. This note will be shipped within one business day after payment is received. Thank you for viewing!
