It offers not only dynamic movements like forward/reverse and left/right turns, but also turret rotation, vertical movement of the long-barreled 88mm gun, and synchronized sound effects, including firing sounds for both the main cannon and front machine gun. A standout feature is the engine sound, which was digitally recorded from the only operational King Tiger in the world, equipped with a Maybach HL230-P30 engine, thanks to the cooperation of the Saumur Tank Museum in France. The engine sound dynamically changes according to the model’s movements, from startup to idle and full-speed driving. About the German Heavy Tank King Tiger (Henschel Turret) The King Tiger, a German heavy tank that appeared in 1944 during the later stages of World War II, featured thick armor: 150mm on the front and 80mm on the sides. It was powered by a 700-horsepower Maybach HL230-P30 engine. The first 50 prototypes were equipped with turrets designed by Porsche, while the production model featured an improved turret designed by Henschel. The King Tiger was armed with a powerful 71-caliber 88mm gun capable of penetrating 150mm thick armor from a distance of 2,000 meters. About 440 units were produced between early summer 1944 and March 1945, and they were heavily used during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944, becoming a significant threat to the Allied forces. Easy Zimmerit Coating Replication During the later stages of World War II, German tanks were coated with Zimmerit to protect against magnetic mines. The kit includes adhesive sheets with 3D-printed coating patterns, making it easy to replicate the Zimmerit coating that was a challenge in creating late-war German tanks. Enjoy Two Engine Start Sounds The King Tiger tank could be started with a conventional electric starter, but in cold climates, the engine was hand-cranked to protect the battery. This feature has been faithfully recreated in the model. When you turn on the transmitter first, you will hear the hand-crank startup sound. If the receiver is switched on first, you will hear the electric starter sound. When the temperature drops, the hand-crank sound will play regardless of which switch is activated, enhancing the realism. Authentic Engine Sound Recording The only operational King Tiger heavy tank in the world is displayed at the Saumur Tank Museum in France. To capture the engine sound from this vehicle, Tamiya staff traveled overseas. The engine was started both with the battery and by hand-crank, and even the distinctive sound of the flywheel spinning was recorded.
