Description: Stanley No. 77 Dowel Machine with Five Cutters - Vintage - Near Mint. This used piece retains most of its original dark blue Japan finish. For any collector or wood enthusiast, this is truly an amazing piece to own. Dowel Machine measures 15 inches long. Included is the original 1/2" diameter cutter, which is mounted on the drive spindle. Four additional cutters, 1/4", 3/8", 5/16" and 5/16" sizes, are also included. The action is smooth and works as intended. This dowel maker was first offered in 1911 and I have not seen many available in good condition. In 1911, this represented the most important improvement in dowel making since Medieval times. It not only made rods of any length, but also all types of wood. The cutter heads are similar to the Scottish wooden rounder, which dates back to the 18th century. This piece was in my home for years, and I hope a new owner can treasure it.
