Description: VTG MCM Stainless Flatware Set - Carvel Hall Chas.D.Briddell Fine Quality Cutlery 4 sets of 2 - I think they are Oyster accessories. 2 of the knives have slight issues. 1- has a crack in the handle but is intact (That Oyster must have been a tough one.) And the 2nd knife has a little spacing from blade to handle but it too is intact and doesn't effect usage. This set it is standing the test of time and was loved with good reason... nice set. A little history about Carvel Hall: Carvel Hall, a name that resonates with craftsmanship and quality cutlery, has an intriguing origin. Carvel Hall was founded in 1895 by Charles D. Briddell in Crisfield, Maryland. Its humble beginnings trace back to a blacksmith shop that initially manufactured carts and farm equipment. However, Carvel Hall’s legacy extends beyond mere utility. They also crafted specialized tools for local watermen and boatmen on the Chesapeake Bay, including crab and oyster harvesting implements.During World War II, Briddell’s expertise expanded to creating bolos for the US Marine Corps, as well as a variety of kitchen knives and even anti-tank bazooka shells. Quite the diverse portfolio! Now, here’s where it gets interesting. In 1946, an employee named Paul Culver designed and hand-carved a letter opener as a Christmas gift for Charles Briddell. With Culver’s assistance, this design metamorphosed into the iconic Carvel Hall steak knife. These knives became an instant sensation, raking in a staggering $1 million in sales within just four weeks of their unveiling in 1951.The Carvel Hall line derived its name from a renowned luxury hotel in Annapolis, Maryland. Soon after, the company officially changed its name to Carvel Hall. The original manufacturing plant, known as the Chas. D. Briddell facility, operated on Main Street in Crisfield from 1920 until a fire tragically consumed it in March 1951. Undeterred, Carvel Hall relocated to 4251 Crisfield Highway, where production of their signature steak knives and other cutlery continued. In 1961, the firm was acquired by Towle Manufacturing, a silversmith company, and remained active until 1990. Even after that, Carvel Hall persisted. · I sell both “BUY IT NOW” and “AUCTION” items! · Check Out my Ebay Store, “FabvFinds,” For more of my Fabulous Vintage Finds! · Items are shipped within 3 business days of payment received.
