Formed in 1981 in Huntington Park, California, Slayer is known for their fast, aggressive music, dark themes, and their pioneering role in extreme metal. Their debut album, Show No Mercy, released in 1983, marks the beginning of their storied career and the foundation of their iconic sound. Show No Mercy is a raw, speed-driven assault, blending the aggression of hardcore punk with the heaviness of early heavy metal. At the time of its release, the album was influenced by bands like Venom, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden, but Slayer added an extra layer of intensity that helped define the nascent thrash metal genre.
