SIGNED TIFFANY STUDIOS FAVRILE FABRIQUE LINENFOLD BRONZE TABLE LAMP

Description: SIGNED TIFFANY STUDIOS FAVRILE FABRIQUE (LINENFOLD) SHADE TABLE LAMP - CIRCA 1913 Measures approximately 19 1/2" high by 11 1/2" wide (at widest part of the shade) by 5 3/4" diameter at the base. Excellent original condition with one exception: one of the linenfold panels has a small 3/4" crack in the upper right-hand corner - see photos. Lamp has been re-wired with a period-correct fabric cord and plug. This lamp has a beautiful favrile fabrique jeweled border around the bottom edge of the shade. Signed 'Tiffany Studios New York' on the underside of the lamp base. Although the shade is unsigned, I believe it to be an original and authentic Tiffany shade because of the favrile fabrique glass panels. While I believe that the favrile fabrique 'linenfold' glass panels are original to the shade, there is some doubt that the slag glass panels are original. There is a distinct probability they are replacement panels for four of the original linenfold panels. About the Favrile Fabrique glass: Like other lighting retailers in New York, Tiffany Studios offered table lamps with a choice of traditional parchment and pleated silk shades. From 1913 to 1914, the independent designer Henry O. Schmidt patented a new type of mold-cast glass lampshade panel for Tiffany Studios imitating delicately pleated silk. Under the directorship of Leslie Hayden Nash, Tiffany Studios offered an expanded range of lampshades in this new favrile fabrique style. Such innovative lamps were advertised as suitable wedding gifts for the modern bride: “The Fabrique Shades are recent creations, which have attracted great attention. The Glass resembles the texture and appearance of silk without disadvantages of getting out of shape, soiling, or fading.”
