Description: Royal Worcester 3 Cups & 3 Saucers 1961-2015 Evesham Fruits & Leaves w/Gold HTF Exquisite Decorative Set of 3 CUPS & SAUCERS from ROYAL WORCESTER, APPLES, PLUMS, BLACKBERRIES, GOOSEBERRIES w/GOLD Trim, from Worcester, Worcestershire, England, circa 1961-2015 DESCRIPTION: This superb quality china has colors that are bright and vivid. This is hand decorated on white porcelain with a gold trim on the rims and handles. The handle gold is applied in a single stripe down the center of the handle such that there is no gold in the spot where you would hold the bottom of the handle. This is referred to as a "1 Stripe Handle". This is different from the "2 Stripe Handle". The colors used are: multi-color w/gold on white porcelain. The most striking thing about this set is the beautiful display of fruits. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks. There is no wear to the gold. DIMENSIONS: The cups have a diameter of 3 3/8" with a height of 2 3/4" and a capacity of 8 ounces. The saucers have a height of 7/8" and a diameter of 5 7/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Back in 1751, Dr. John Wall, a surgeon, William Davis, an apothecary, and a group of 13 local businessmen established a porcelain factory. In Worcester in 1756 Robert Hancock was the first man to apply transferring of prints onto porcelain. By 1789 the quality of Worcester Porcelain earned the company the prestigious “Royal Warrant” as Manufacturers to their Majesties after a visit from George III; thus the word “Royal” was added to the name. Royal Worcester as a manufacturer of extremely high quality wares rapidly became known for producing prestigious items for the upper classes. After centuries in the porcelain business, surviving wars and depressions, Royal Worcester experienced a number of ownership changes after the 1980’s. The final result being the cessation of business and the sale of the trade names and intellectual property in 2009 to Portmeirion Potteries plc. Introduced in 1961, Royal Worcester's Evesham Gold is named for a town on the River Avon, not far from the birthplace of William Shakespeare. True to this orchard-rich region of England, the glossy white porcelain trimmed with 22-carat gold displays a variety of vegetables and dangling ripe fruit still on the twig. Despite its gracious, Old World charm, the pattern was introduced in the 1960's and has been a collector's item in the United States ever since.
