I splay the roots in training for a bonsai pot which also works if planted in a landscape to prevent root knotting in the future. They are an easy care tree, take wire nicely and are just nice to work with. Native to the western United States and southwestern Canada in a wide range of climates. A bit more drought tolerant than other trees and can take the winters here in the upper Oregon Blue Mountains with no protection. Frequently used ornamental in landscape, Christmas trees and reforestation. Broad conical growth habit 40-100 feet in height and can live between 50-75 years.
