Description: I have NEVER seen a piece of ironstone like this and I have collected ironstone for many years! It has the same shape and size as a punch bowl except that it is divided down the middle. I have heard from an ironstone collector who has a similar piece that it is from the late 1800’s and was used in pubs. It sat on the bar with different bar snacks in it, ie pickled beets. While it doesn’t sound too appetizing it makes sense with the way they did things in England during that time. That is as much as I know about this piece. The gold band was originally around the top, under the burgundy band and around the footed bottom. Much of it has worn off. It was made by ETRURIA MELLOR & CO. The burgundy is shiny in spots and matte in spots, even looks repaired in spots but I doubt that it was. The divided middle part is not straight. It veers off to the left. See photos. There is a round spot on the inside that looks like a repair. I am not sure. See photos. I think this is a lovely piece even though I am not sure of the function. It would be beautiful at the holidays filled with greens and vintage ornaments. Please check my listings for more antique Ironstone. I am happy to answer any questions BEFORE YOU PURCHASE. Please look closely at the photos and the description as I DO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS. Thank you for your interest.
