Description: Nikon SP The Nikon SP is a professional level, interchangeable lens, 35mm rangefinder camera introduced in 1957. It is the culmination of Nikon's rangefinder development which started in 1948 with the Nikon I, and was "arguably the most advanced rangefinder of its time." Further development of Nikon's S series ended with the introduction of the Nikon F which followed shortly thereafter This particular camera for sale here, has a rarely seen 'T' engraving on the top. This was to denote a Tourist Tax exemption; meaning that the camera was likely made to be sold in a duty free store at an airport in Japan. The 'T' engraving is far less common than even the export engraving. The Nikon SP has dual viewfinders providing frame lines for a total of six focal lengths. The main viewfinder has 1x magnification and has frame lines for 50 mm, 85 mm, 105 mm and 135 mm (selected by rotating a dial under the rewind crank). The frames are parallax-corrected and the focusing patch appears in the centre of the viewfinder. A separate, smaller viewfinder (less than life size) to the left of the main viewfinder has non-parallax corrected frame lines for 35 mm. The entire window acts as a frame for 28 mm lenses Comes with a 5mm F2 lens from Carl Zeiss Condition:As you can see from the photos, the camera body cosmetics are in good condition with normal wear from regular use. Photos capture all sides. Both shutter curtains look great with no repairs. Edges of the leatherette have some lifting. Typical scratches on the body and back. There is some kind of black coloured material in the finder (see photos), seems to be right behind the front glass. Some oil on the aperture leaves, but they still open and close properly. Back is a bit tight to attach when locking it shut. The viewfinder dial is stiff to turn and is not changing the hash marks inside. It turns to 8.5 and 5 and a bit before, but not to 13.5. Lens looks clear. The shutter fires at all speeds, but timing sounds off on the slow speeds; for example, you can hear the winding continue after a 1 second, 1/2 second and 1/8 second. 1/4 is definitely fast. Focus is a little stiff. The rangefinder will need service; to clean out the black stuff behind the glass, and to get the alignment adjusted so that it works properly.
