Description: Rare 1920’s Art Deco Celluloid Dancing Vanity/Compact Purse with 'Carnet de Bal' Description: Exquisite novelty Art Deco Dancing Vanity/Compact Purse with 'Carnet de Bal'. Hexagonal in shape, made of faux tortoise-shell and faux ivory celluloid. It features two round sliding cover shells with inlaid faux ivory stripes. The front cover reveals a “magic” reducer mirror (allowing you to see your entire face at a short distance) and a divided compartment, perhaps intended for a lipstick, pencil, or compact powder. The back features a blank round celluloid area for use as a carnet de bal. It also comes with an original brown cotton carrying cord attached to a celluloid ring. Unmarked but very likely made in France, circa 1920. Dimensions: 3-¾” (9.5 cm) height. Condition: The pin stop on back has been replaced in the past (picture #12.) The carrying cord is somewhat frayed and the upper part of the small celluloid ring is broken. Otherwise, very fine overall condition.
