Pearlware Green Accent Pepper Caster Shaker Staffordshire c 1800

Description: Pearlware Pepper Caster Shaker Simple elegant lines from around 1800. Probably made in Staffordshire or Yorkshire of glazed earthenware or what is referred to as pearlware. The shaker features a bulbous body with pierced top and a painted band of green over vertical lines. Green underglaze star to top. Circa 1800. Unmarked. Approx 5"H X 2.5" W. Documentation. George Washington's Mount Vernon Museum has a very comprehensive collection of creamware shakers (pictured above), The shape is similar to the first example in the collection. This piece is considered pearlware vs creamware. Pearlware has a blue tinge to the glaze cause by the use of cobalt which was considered an improvement at the time. Creamware precedes Pearlware by a few years. Provenance: Prominent Private Collection Condition: Flaking, chips discoloration and crazing as shown, otherwise minor imperfections to be expected. I will be listing a large Collection of early pearlware, many pieces from a private collection. Terms of Sale Please review photos closely. I try and represent items as accurately as possible.
