Only 100 of each car were produced. This is number 49 of the Joint Line Series and NSC special run numbers 4-142. In 1918 the USRA combined the tracks between Denver and Pueblo to form the Joint Line. "Academy" is the tenth in a series honoring the trains and stations of the Joint Line. The bill establishing the U.S. Air Force Academy was signed by President Eisenhower on April 1st 1954. The Cadet Wing moved into the academy's permanent home north of Colorado Springs in 1958. This is a prototypical Santa Fe Bx-189 50 foot boxcar from a series of 200 cars manufactured in April of 1978 by FMC. The car is painted "Indian Red" with yellow, black and white printing. The car was assigned to "XF Food Loading Only". The car has prototypical end printing.
