The ZERO entered operational service in September 1940 and served through to the end of the war some five years later. When first introduced, it was arguably the finest fighter aircraft in the world, combining exceptional maneuverability, good firepower, and incredible range. It ruled the Pacific skies until mid-1942 at which time a combination of better (and more) Allied aircraft and tactics began to reduce its dominance. This publication focuses on ZEROs up to the A6M2 and includes the A6M2-K trainer variant. This 42 page, 7.25 x 10.25 inch (B5 size) softcover was published in 1977 and has the standard MARU MECHANIC format: great detail drawings, color profiles, and Japanese text – all with an overall emphasis on the mechanical aspects of the aircraft.
