CONTACT US with any questions! 804 23 9 549 0 Item Description: I am pleased to offer this original and old hand-made Japanese sword, or Nihonto, brought back from WWII. The blade represents the opportunity to own a high quality Gendaito Katana by the swordsmith Yoshiie. The blade is in MINTY condition and the mountings are in Near MINT condition. The sword has a blade length of 27 inches (68cm). It shows a strong and robust shape with a wide mihaba of 3.5cm and larger kissaki at 4.5cm. The hada is a very well-implemented and tight ko-itame hada. The hamon is a well-implemented large-pattern gunome midare hamon with large cloud-like gunome formations. The hamon is present the length of the blade through the kissaki ending in a thick maru boshi. The hamon displays a deep nioi guchi with long ashi extending into the hamon. The tang is signed Yoshiie and the sword is a gendaito, or traditionally made sword from the 1900’s. The blade comes in shirasaya mountings. They are in Near MINT condition showing some slight indentations in the tsuka and saya. The blade is in MINTY condition. There are no nicks, no rust, and very few scratches. There are no major flaws like hagire. Given the high degree of craftsmanship displayed, condition, and the reputation of the swordsmith, I highly recommend this sword to a collector of Japanese swords or WWII militaria.
