Description: A fine hand drawn pen and ink sketch from American illustration artist Gil Walker. The image measures 5 3/4 x 7 1/4 inches and is drawn on a sample of gold card stock. It is hand signed in the lower right, dated 1956 and titled "Jukebox". Excellent condition aside from a short non-distracting crease in the upper left corner. Gilbert M. Walker (b.1927) was a New York City based book and magazine illustrator. He studied at the Art Students League with Reginald Marsh and served in both WWII and the Korean War as an army artist. Later he taught art from 1957-61 at the City College of New York. Walker specialized in action subjects and received a number of distinctive merit awards in art exhibitions in NYC and Washington, DC, as well as winning some book illustration awards. He was a regular contributor to Harper's Magazine and The Reporter and below is a small sampling of books illustrated by Gil Walker: Lawrence of Arabia by Alistair MacLean, The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle, The Midshipman and the Rajah by Marjorie Phillips, The Compact History of the United States Marines by Frank O'Hough.
