Description: Vintage 1950s Sears Harmony House Melmac "Talk of the Town" Covered Sugar Bowl Offered here is a true "Talk of the Town" covered sugar bowl. Sold by Sears Department Stores during the early 1950s, "Talk of the Town" dinnerware was made of thick, heavy-weight melmac and featured square plates, saucers, and bowls. In keeping with this angular shape, the sugar bowl offered here has a rectangular form, measuring 5-5/8" long from one flange handle to the other, 3-7/8" wide, (actual opening is 4-1/8 by 3-5/8 inches) and 2-1/4" tall uncovered (about 3-3/8" tall from tabletop to the top of the knob on its lid). Molded into the bowl's 3 by 2-1/2-inch underside is this raised maker's mark:HARMONY HOUSE REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. "TALK OF THE TOWN" MELMACThis 2-piece set is in remarkably well-preserved condition. The seafoam green bowl has a smooth and glossy exterior showing absolutely no scratches or rubbing. The bowl's interior bottom has very fine, light scratches that are clean and unstained. The maroon lid is flawless, its top and underside having absolutely no scratches. Needless to say, both pieces are free of nicks, chips, cracks, stains, and burn or scorch marks. Although exceptionally clean when found, this set has been carefully hand washed and towel dried, then safely stored in our pet-free, smoke-free home, and will arrive ready to use. I have a beige creamer and set of 8 saucers from the original set currently listed. Will I combine shipping for you? Absolutely!Shipping InformationDurable, but not indestructible, a sheet of foam packing material will be placed between the sugar bowl and lid before they are secured with wide strips of bubble wrap, swaddled in multiple layers of bubble wrap and packed in a snug-fitting, custom made box.
