Description: Original Gavit & Duthie lithograph titled Outline of The Mohawk River & Wood Creek Shewing the Relative Positions of Fort Bull, Fort Williams, and The German Flatts, printed more than 170 years ago. The image area measures 17.8 x 25 cm [7" x 9¾"], and the map is drawn on a scale of 1:266,779. It shows the portage path between the Mohawk River and Wood Creek known as the Oneida Carry, the primary route of travel between the Dutch East India Company and English traders. It locates two small stockade forts built by the English at the start of the French & Indian War to safeguard supply lines to Oswego on Lake Ontario in upstate New York. Fort Bull stood for only a short time. Along with its connecting supply routes, it was destroyed in March 1756 by a French-led attack. The English subsequently rebuilt what had been Fort Bull with Fort Wood Creek, to maintain their strength on the Carry. This is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. It was printed in Albany, New York, circa 1850 by Gavit & Duthie. Condition: It is in very good condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side.
