Saadia, born in Lahore in 1973, is based in Stockholm and works both nationally and internationally. Saadia has worked with thousands of people and developed methods that enables more people to participate, create and share their stories. Saadia Hussain was born in a small town, Mansehra, in Northern Pakistan on the 30th of June 1972. The oldest of three siblings, she was born with a hearing disability, which was a challenge during her school years. However, she did excel in one academic aspect of curriculum: Art. What she lacked in communication, languages and the other subjects, she made up for with creativity in drawing, painting, and photography. She was accepted to the National College of Arts in 1994 where she chose painting as her major and the disciplines of photography, printmaking and textile as her minor subjects. She graduated in 2010 after finishing an MA (Hons) in Visual Arts from the same institution in 2010. Married with two children and based in Lahore, Saadia has been teaching at the National College of Arts in Lahore since 2013 in addition to working as an independent artist developing her talents across many fields, mainly digital work, painting, drawing and photography. She has had frequent shows in major cities of Pakistan like Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. Saadia is an visual artist, art activist, artistic director and art educator based in Stockholm. Born in Lahore in 1972 and raised from the age of 7 in Stockholm. Saadia's visual work/prints and installation Playground has toured in Sweden for two years (2010 -2012) She has had several solo shows and group shows in Sweden. Her most recent work has been shown at Vårsalong, Liljevalschs konsthall 2014 and at Architectural and Design center (2013 – 2014) Saadia experiments and discusses the complexity, plasticity, artificiality and authenticity connected to identities and belonging through her work. In her role as artistic director, Saadia has led 18 collective mural art projects with over 1500 participants of all ages in Stockholm, with a strong emphasis on accessibility, democracy, participation and freedom of expression in the public space.
