Description: Excellent condition turned antique covered jar or inkwell in lignum vitae. The color variation is lovely with a nice glossy surface. There are no cracks or chips and it measures 2" to the top of the finial and 2" diameter. This is 19th century and the wood lignum vitae is no longer readily harvested because of its scarcity. I believe that this might have been used as an inkwell since there seems to be traces of ink in the very bottom.
