Description: Maurin Quina Le Puy France poster... the largest size ever made. Originally made in three section as the manufacturing process could only make up to a certain size. This poster is originally mounted on linen canvas. Size: Three parts each measuring 125 x 195 cm, making the total size of 375 x 195 cm ! (147,5 inch x 49,2 inch)The poster is in exceptional condition as seen on the pictures and makes it a very rare find. Maurin Quina is a French apéritif advertisement painted by Leonetto Cappiello in 1906. It is perhaps Cappiello's most famous poster. The image features a devilish figure sneakily de-corking the bottle. Cappiello used "infernal imagery" in several of his posters for alcohol. The green devil in particular evokes "la fée verte" (the green fairy), the nickname for absinthe, a drink popular during the Belle Époque. The product was banned by the French government shortly after it was released. This poster is an advertisement for an alcoholic beverage that went out of production in 1906. Maurin is the brand name and Quina is the type of alcohol. (Catawiki) The picture with the man in black standing next to it shows how the poster looks like when assembled and is not the one in my sale; just for showing the size.
