Description: This is a gorgeous and Fine Vintage Old French Impressionist Oil Painting on canvas, by renowned mid 19th century French Impressionist painter, Francois Gerome (b. 1895.) This artwork depicts a meticulously detailed and finely rendered interior scene of the Paris Opera House, with multitudes of finely dressed men and women wear top hats and elegant gowns. In the foreground, a lovely young brunette woman looks out just away from the gaze of the viewer, holding a bouquet of pink flowers in her hands. Signed and titled in the lower right corner: "F. Gerome...L'Opera de Paris." Approximately 35 inches tall x 40 1/2 inches wide x 3 1/2 inches thick (including frame, but not the lamp fixture.) Actual artwork is approximately 24 x 30 inches. Very good condition for age and storage, with some dirtiness and dust in the corners of the original period ornate solid wood gilded frame. Additionally, there is a very small and barely noticeable tear in the lower left corner of the canvas (please see photos.) Acquired in Los Angeles County, California. This artwork is so well done, and likely hung in a mansion sized home. This is one of Gerome's finest known artworks. Priced to Sell.
