Description: "David Gilmour is recognized the world over for his revolutionary and incomparable sound with the legendary Pink Floyd and his work as a solo artist. When you hear the tones coming out of his red Strat® you're hearing his signature EMG Pro Series system: the DG20. This set utilizes our ivory Alnico loaded SA single coil pickups, an EXG Guitar Expander for increased treble and bass frequencies, and an SPC presence control to enhance your Strat's earthiness and mid-range." Let me introduce you to my #1 guitar. This is a copy of the famous David Gilmour Red Strat. A lot of time and money has been spent on this project. For the base, I decided to choose a Japanese Strat ’57. To be honest, it is difficult to find a guitar that meets all the conditions of the Gilmour Red Strat guitar. It was possible to build a cheap Mexican version, but such a project deserves better build quality. The standard American version cannot be found with a 7.25 lacquered neck made in America. They simply do not exist. On the official Fender website, you can only buy the Mexican version. Of course, you can look for a Custom Shop, but this will cost a lot of money. So I decided to go with the Japanese version. It was also not easy to find. If you google it, the Japanese Fender in terms of build quality and sound is in 2nd place after the Custom, then comes the American Professional Fender, and the next one is the Mexican. And this is not my opinion. So, regarding the changes made to this guitar: 1.Replacing the pickup guard with a brand new EMG DG20 (changed to an 8-hole white pickguard plate) 2.Bringing the guitar to a vintage worn look. All work was done with special equipment and then varnished for longer lasting effect. The most expensive work was a custom engraving of the metal neck plate and the plastic backplate. Of course, I could have printed the serial number and the “Plek” logo on paper and glued it with tape, but that would have been kindergarten. So I ordered a custom engraving. 3.Replacing the tremolo arm with a shortened 4.25” custom one 4.Replacing the neck plate with a custom one 5.Replacing the strings and adjusting the tone and intonation. Here’s the “REPLICA” of his famous “Red Strat” guitar (as closer as possible): Fender 50’s Alder Body with Nitro Candy Apple Red finish Fender 57 reissue maple neck with 7.25" radius fingerboard, 21 vintage style frets and lacquer finish on the both sides Fender 50’s Reissue Stratocaster Tremolo Bridge Shortened tremolo arm to 4.25" to be held by your pinky while soloing. 1-ply vintage style white pickguard (8 holes) Weight 8lbs EMG SA single coils EMG SPC and EXC active tone Just a little bit information about his signature pickups: EMG DG-20 David Gilmour Signature Stratocaster Pickguard in a glance: * EMG SA pickups * "Strat Presence Control" * EXG Guitar Expander EMG SA pickups The EMG SA is an active single coil loaded with an Alnico V bar magnet that provides a vintage Strat single coil sound: bright, airy, with a rich bottom end. With internal shielding and a low impedance preamp, you get virtually noiseless operation at a higher output level so that all the tone makes it to your amp. Additionally, the Alnico V bar magnet allows for the output to remain balanced during string bends, and makes for a playability and reliability that is unrivaled. The creamy mid-range warmth and sublime blues tones are clear, strong and expressive, and allow you to reach from classic and clean, to rowdy and raunchy. "Strat Presence Control" The SPC or "Strat Presence Control" is often called the fat control. The original intent of the SPC was to turn the tone of a single-coil pickup into a dual-coil. This is accomplished by boosting the gain in a broad mid-band fashion and reducing the highs. The result is a fatter, louder tone from any single coil pickup, but you can also use it on a humbucking to give you a high output, really fat tone that's great for slide guitar. EXG Guitar Expander For flexibility in tone at your fingertips look to the EXG Guitar Expander. The frequency response of the EXG is similar to normal guitar amp equalization. The lows and highs are boosted while the midrange is dipped out. The EXG is great for creating a fuller tone that doesn't get muddy, while keeping it clean and clear, letting your guitar stand out in the mix. Comes with the Black Deluxe Vintage Case. How to change the battery: The battery is located directly under the tone control. To access it, remove the three screws around the tone knobs and gently lift the pickguard to change the battery. It’s a simple process and should take about 3-5 minutes. As you can see, I’ve also added soft pads around the battery to prevent it from moving or making noise inside.
