Description: Wonderful early set of Federal style fireplace andirons. I was told these came out of a very old home in Tennessee many years ago. Looking at how they are made I believe they are very early an probably date to the late 18th century. The iron portions are not molded but are hammer forged. The brass parts are hollow but nice and thick. The pad feet are cast brass and they are attached with a iron pin, not screws. The brass ball tops are 4" in diameter. They stand 14 1/2 tall and are 11" wide at the feet. 13 1/2 deep. They weigh about 14 pounds. These are some of nicest old andirons I have seen in a long time. The brass is good overall but there are some minor dents and scratches on them from several centuries of time and use.Just take a look at the photos for more detail. They look even better in person so don't pass these up.
