Description: Modern (1989-2007) reproduction of the Faberge’ Gatchina Palace Egg. The egg is made of what I can best describe as modern pewter. It was then plated with high karat gold. The Egg, is cold applied enameled in white, then partitioned by slim bands of tiny imitation pearls into twelve sections with painted decorations of swags, bows and flower baskets. My egg is 100% correct with the exception of the stand. Due to this, the egg has always been closed on the stand. The egg is just too heavy and therefore unbalanced to be displayed open on the stand. Please note that my egg for sale has the correct “surprise” that can be stored under the gold plated palace in a velvet lined space. You slightly unscrew the palace to reveal the velvet hiding place. This “surprise “ is a circular gold plated frame decorated with imitation pearls and crystals. The picture in the frame is a computer printed replica of a portrait of Tsar Nicholas’s mother Dowager Empress Maria "Marie" Feodorovna. The frame is also imprinted with Faberge. The egg was produced during the period Unilever owned the trademark rights to the Faberge’ name. (1989-2007) Thus they had the right to place the Faberge’ name on the interior rim of the egg as pictured. I believe that these were assembled in Rhode Island as this is where they applied the crystals on their other styled reproductions such as the Rosebud Egg reproductions.
