During development, I tried several of the same model muffs and different versions of the ELK fuzz, but quickly realized that each of these pedals was quite different from the other. The only way to get close to the unique quality of sustain and distortion that her ELK fuzz has is to learn from the pedals she actually owns, so Wata was willing to take her beloved machine to Earthquaker Devices headquarters, They sent me to Akron, Ohio. The moment I tried this pedal, I discovered something special that only this individual had that was not found in the other pedals I tested. It is a fuzz that has strong saturation, a rough edge, and the band's signature big, enveloping bass, while also having enough mids and highs to penetrate through. Hizumitas reliably and accurately reproduces the character that can only be obtained with the individual pedals she owns! Hizumitas has a sufficient amount of heavy distortion and a smooth sustain while still retaining a rough feel, and a wrap-around texture from the low end.The sound is so tense that it feels like the speaker is on the verge of tearing off, but at the same time it's wonderfully clear. It has a resolution that you can't imagine from such an aggressive distortion pedal. Sustain is a setting of the amount of distortion, and even a small change will cause a variety of changes in the saturation applied to the entire sound. The Hizumitas is flexible enough to accommodate a variety of pickup types and playing styles, with huge and heavy power chords, smooth yet powerful extrusion of single-note leads, and especially the texture when using the front pickup is a must-see. Tone is unusually effective for a pedal that produces this kind of distortion, and depending on how you set it with Sustain, you can enjoy dramatic changes in the sound.
