Dungeness crab boats fish the inland and coastal waters and Alaska king crob toats fish in the Gulf of Alaska and the Bearing Sea. The two types are different in ways other than size, but both use post in their quest. Among the early steel crabbers that were built in series were the house-aft 92 foot boats designed by Ben Jensen and built jointly by Flohr Metal Fabricators and Pacific Fishermen Shipyard of Seattle. House-aft boats were not as common in the crab fishery as the house forward or seiner style, but these venerable jensen schooners set a standard that led to a number of house-aft designs. The crew's quarters are more comfortable, being at the aft end of the vessel, where there is less motion, the skipper has a better view of the working deck since it is in front of the pilot house.
