Description: Clifford Jackson ( African-American, 1927-2006 ) Self-portrait with daisy petals Dimensions: 9 ½ x 13 inches for the etching alone. 16 x 22 inches with the frame. Description: Fine aquatint and etching on wove paper. Hand Signed in graphite, Clifford Jackson, titled self-portrait and inscribed ( Prov Tryk) Danish for artist's proof (AP). Age: Ca. 1962-1964. Proof print is the term for an original graphic print made by or for the artist himself before approval of the printing plate for the production of an edition. We have not seen this image by Clifford Jackson before, so we believe it to be a unique work or most likely made in very few editions. Possibly a work made for his show at Galerie Marya, Copenhagen 1962 or for the famous exhibition “10 American Negro artists living and working in Europe” At den Frie in Copenhagen 1964. Outstanding self portrait of the artist surrounded by daisy petals. A symbolic work where Clifford Jackson is seen dressed in his artist smock and with hand on his forehead. The etching was made during Clifford Jacksons stay in Denmark and it’s significant that he chose to embellish the background with daisy petals as the daisy is the national flower of Denmark. Daisies are commonly found across Denmark, blossoming in gardens, parks, and wild meadows, making them a familiar and endearing sight. The daisy is more than just a flower in Denmark; it's a symbol of the nation's heart and soul. It has even become an iconic piece of jewelry created by the famous Danish designer Georg Jensen. A certificate of authenticity will be included with this work. Clifford Jackson (African-American 1927) Self-portrait with daisy petals. 1964.
