A cursory search of reputable, highly respected antiquarian/rare book sellers has revealed copies in similar condition with prices ranging between $2,500 and $4,000. Please remember this is NOT the First Edition/First Printing of this title! Once again, this is NOT a First Edition/First Printing. This is a First Edition/Early Printing with the ONLY identifiable differences being the colophon, the material/color of the boards, some of the info on the copyright page and the ISBN. A TRUE First/First will have a Six Line colophon, different colored boards, no ISBN and so on. This copy has the Five Line colophon. This, being a very Early Printing of the First Edition, is an attractive option for those who wish to have a valuable early printing, a near clone of the first state, while avoiding the exorbitant cost of a first printing. Here are a few of the significant First Edition Points present in this copy... The infamous Oompa-Loompa Illustrations are present, they were excised in later editions/printings. Page 72 has the clearest example of the controversial illustration. ALL of the original illustrations are present in this copy. All of the original language/writing is present. Some of the language/writing has been removed/changed. Later printings, current printing and future printings will have the new language/writing. Dated "1964" with no additional printings or dates listed. Some would classify this copy as the Third State of the First Edition using certain bibliographical points of interest. According to our research, there is some debate over the points of interest and some differing opinions pertaining to the necessary points to denote the specific printing. For this reason, we are simply selling our copy as an Early Printing of the First Edition. One last time, please remember this is NOT the First Printing of the First Edition. This rare treasure has some clearly visible age/wear, but is still in Highly Desirable, Highly Collectible condition! The wear, however, should be carefully examined/considered BEFORE buying. The book appears gently read and has no internal writing, no remainder marks, no missing pages and is NOT Ex-Libris or a BCE. The binding is holding tight and the pages are still surprisingly crisp and clean! Some general/shelf/age wear along with creases/scuffing/marks/wear to the spine/corners/boards, marks/wear to the edge/fore pages and creases/marks/discoloration/wear to the pages, NOT affecting the text! Please note the wear on the spine/corners/boards, particularly noticeable near/along the edges, and the wear that is present on the pages, particularly noticeable on certain pages. The wear is clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered. The original dust jacket is price-clipped, otherwise fully intact. Some general/shelf/age wear along with creases, scuffing, scratches, marks and rips. Please note the wear on the spine, at the corners and near/along the edges!
