Description: This rare item is a carved jadeite jade depiction of a seated jaguar in the ancient Mayan style. We are experts in jade carvings admittedly ones done in China over the last thousands of years. This carving shows all the proper tool marks you would expect to see on a piece carved entirely with primitive hand tools and polished as such also. There are remnants of a green pigment visible in some of the recessed areas and there is also wear that you would expect to see on a heavy jadeite carving that is at least hundreds of years old. This carving has been confirmed as being jadeite jade with a meticulously performed specific gravity test which shows this stone has a specific gravity of 3.39. Please examine the photos very thoroughly to best understand the tool marks, the wear, the polishing technique, and the green pigment remnants that is present. The true color was a bit difficult to capture in the photos so I utilized different backgrounds and light sources to show the range of colors in different lighting and backdrops. The color may appear different in person than on your monitor or phone screen. It measures roughly 3 1/8” tall and weighs roughly 360 grams. The condition is excellent with no chips or cracks visible. This piece was purchased from a multi million dollar estate in Palm Beach Florida that contained many expensive and early examples of ethnic artifacts. Please take a look at our other listings!
