Wooden frame exhibits scuffing and rubbing, but overall clean and intact. Colors of actual image remain clean and bright, even through glass frame. Metallic bordering clean & bright, however, may be slightly dulled from original brightness. Blind stamp name-plate found at bottom edge of bordering: The Circassian Lady (hard to see in photos). Overall a beautiful piece of artwork. Presents well. Please see photos and ask questions, if any, before purchasing. George Baxter (1804-1867) was an English artist and printer based in London. He is credited with the invention of commercially viable color printing. Though color printing had been developed in China centuries before, it was not commercially viable. However, in early years of the 19th century the process of color printing had been revived by George Savage, a Yorkshire-man in London. It was to be Savage's methods upon which Baxter, already an accomplished artist and engraver, was to improve. In 1828, Baxter began experimenting with color printing by means of woodblocks.
