Description: Boghdad Berber Tribal Morrocan Tifinagh Ethnic Amazigh vintage cross pendant beaded with Lapis Lazuli and red coral. Beautiful Morrocan Silver Boghdad Berber Cross pendant with a red Cabochon in the center. This focal piece measures approximately 2” in height by over 1.5” in width. I surrounded the cross with 2 beautiful genuine fluted carved red coral melon beads that are about 20mm. Then I strung the cross with genuine blue lapis lazuli natural untreated gemstone beads (22-24mm) and embellished it with 2 oval oblong Tibetan red capped Nepalese beads that are about 2.5” in length x 16mm width. I used 10 vintage Bicone berber beads as spacers. I finished it with an bali S hook clasp closure. The necklace measures 23” in total length. Made with handmade genuine Ethnic materials from Morocco. About the meaning of Morrocan Boghdad berber Tuareg Crosses: They derived from the Egyptian Ankh symbol from which would be derived the carteginese symbol of the Goddess Tanit and, finally, the Tuareg Crosses. They are a sex symbol: especially in Agadez, Zinder and In Gall crosses is evident the presence of two elements, which can be linked to a stylized depiction of the two sex symbols: the tip, male symbol, and the ring, the symbol of women. They are said to protect from the evil eye: in the form of several types of crosses and in the decoration of almost all types appears the presence of triangular elements that constitute the representation more stylized of apotropaic eye. In Ancient Rome Lapis lazuli was most highly prized for its strong aphrodisiac properties, while in the Middle Ages people believed that this crystal relieves one's soul from the burden of sin. In antiquity, it was regarded as a holy stone, a universal symbol of wisdom and truth. For thousands of years, Lapis lazuli has been treasured for its intense blue colour. The Berbers or Imazighen (‘Free people’; plural of Amazigh) are the original inhabitants of North Africa. They speak a number of related languages and share a common cultural heritage. Most Berbers nowadays live in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mali, Mauritania and Niger. In Berber culture, jewelry has a symbolic and mythical meaning besides their practical and ornamental function, as they are used as charms and talismans to protect against evil spirits and influences. In addition, acquiring jewelry has an economic meaning.
