Description: ASAHI PENTAX SUPER-TAKUMAR 50MM 1.4 MINT MINUS A FINE EXAMPLE OF THE FANTASTIC NORMAL LENS FROM VENERABLE JAPANESE MANUFACTURER ASAHI, AKA PENTAX. THIS ONE IS OPTICALLY NEAR PERFECT. A COUPLE OF COATING DAMAGE AREAS FROM A 10 POINT 9- POINTS. FUNCTIONALLY, AS WITH MOST OF THESE, IT IS PERFECT, BUTTER SMOOTH FOCUS AND NICE SNAPPY APERTURE. 10- POINTS. COSMETICALLY IT HAS A COUPLE OF BRIGHT POINT AREAS ON THE KNURLS. 8- POINTS. 27 TOTAL MINT MINUS LENS. GENERIC CAPS AND NO OTHER ANCILLARIES. NOTE ON EVALUATION; THIS IS JUST MY OPINION AND IS NOT A GUARANTEE AS TO CONDITION. I TRY TO BE FAIR AND HONEST IN MY EVALUATIONS, LOOK AT THE IMAGES CAREFULLY AS THEY CONSTITUTE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. How I rate lenses: I evaluate on a 30 point system, with 10 points each given for Optics*, Function and Cosmetics. Mint. 30 points An item that looks and functions as it did when taken from manufacturers packaging. This may include minor dust in optics (which is true of any new lens even today!) Mint minus: 28-29 May have tiny flaws perceptible only upon close inspection such as minor coating damage, slightly stiff focus ring or mm size marring in cosmetics. Excellent Plus 25-27 A small flaw may be apparent. No major issue with optical, function or appearance. eg a dent in the barrel or small scratch near the edge of a lens element. Excellent 22-24 More than 1 flaw of nominal issue. Significant cosmetic wear may be apparent. Optically and functionally very good. Detailed scientific comparison may find minor differences in photos as compared to mint example. Excellent minus 19-21 Allows a single significant flaw to cosmetic such as functional but dented filter ring or minor flaw in optics or function eg slightly slow aperture blades, obvious coating damage or significant dust inclusion. Good 16-18 additional degradation to cosmetics or multiple minor issues with function or optics but still takes very good photos. Good minus 13-15 At this rating more significant issues will be apparent. eg Missing focus ring leather, stiff spots in focus throw make focusing difficult, aperture not fully functional. Needs Work 10-12 Might function in a limited fashion, but could use some TLC eg Focus extremely stiff, aperture blade out of place possibly missing portions of original functional parts but still possibly usable on digital (with some creativity) As Is 0-9 Will need significant parts and or repair to function or usable only for parts. The most ebay has available for lowly folk like me is a 3 day turnaround for shipping and handling. Sometimes that is insufficient. I try to ship as soon as payment is received and 90 percent of the time that is what happens. But sometimes life gets in the way. I don't have any other staff and I also work full time*** LENS evaluation is not straightforward, as there may be different opinions as to what level degradation the eg haze in a lens will give an image, or is it as functional as claimed or how many points off for some cosmetic flaw or other. I do my best to give fair evaluations. I have taken tens of thousands of photos with literally hundreds and hundreds of different lenses. Look at the photos and evaluate for yourself. Do not buy just to try. I will NOT take a lens back because YOU THINK the haze or dust is worse than a eg a 25 point lens or whatever.
