Description: FROM MADEIRA WITH LOVE..... Estate find... Antique, late 19th Century Hanging Hearth Trivet with sliding kettle plate surface. Made of forged iron and brass, the trivet is in its original used condition, a recent attic discovery. Stamped by the maker, H H V & CO. I have not cleaned or polished it. The square brown spots on the plate surface look to be gummy tape or varnish. It is extremely well made and solid, weighty in the hand. The plate surface measures 8 1/2 inches (21.5cm) by 5 1/2 inches (!4cm). When hanging, the arms or slides extend from the hearth 13 inches (33cm) and are 6 inches (15cm) apart. Meant to hang at the hearth, this style of trivet usually hails from England, however, this example was found in Portugal.
