Description: An American Tragedy is Dresier's second-best known work, after Sister Carrie. It was published originally in two volumes; this contemporaneous edition includes both. An American Tragedy is the sordid story of Clyde Griffiths, a moral descendant of Carrie Meeber, who manages poorly the transition from a pastoral to an urban existence. However, where Carrie ends up as a star on the stage, Griffiths' denouement is far less brilliant (though no less... electrifying. Hint, hint.) This is a very early edition in readable condition, handy in that it includes both volumes of the original under one cover. Here are the condition notes: Good condition with flaws. No DJ. Exterior shows significant wear including darkening of the cloth boards and fading of the print. Edge wear, rounded corners, some places where the cloth is worn through. Interior: frontispiece is missing, separation between the frontispiece and the main title. Pages are generally bright and unmarked with very light tanning variably throughout. Binding is loose but intact; book should be handled with care.
