Description: John Davis listed American and Peruvian artist. Davis was painter and engraver at the Art Institute of Chicago and was also an art professor at Syracuse University. Married to famous sculptor and artist Isabel Benevidas in 1951. Moved to Peru to set up an art center teaching and promoting contemporary artists and folk artisans. https://www.peruviantimes.com/19/the-art-of-a-lifetime-isabel-benavides-and-john-davis/18841/ a good read with further information about their lives and more pictures of his paintings and Isabels scuptures. This is a fantastic little gem painted in the abstract cubist style in acrylic or oil on boad. Very vibrant colors mounted in a gold gilt frame. Purchased in Peru about 50 or so years ago. In very good condition. Shows light specks in the paint mainly near the bottom probably bubbles from drying and not damage in my opinion. The painting could benefit a light cleaning but looks good as is and displays well. Overall size including the frame is about 10 1/2" by 12 1/4". Signed lower right corner and also on the back.
