Coins in this auction are purchased directly from the United States Mint and are NOT circulated or taken from bank rolls. Coins are taken from U.S. Mint original packaging, carefully placed with gloves in 2×2 Cowens or Guardian flip holders, and shipped. Circulating (business strike) coins are not perfect as marks, dings, and blemishes occur in the machine minting and shipping process. Unlike circulating coins, proof coins display brilliant backgrounds, with frosted, sculpted foregrounds. Proof coins receive the highest quality strike possible and can be distinguished by their sharpness of detail and brilliant, mirror-like surface. These mirror-like finishes are called Cameo or Deep Cameo. About The Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray: The 2024 Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray Quarter is the 11th coin in the American Women Quarters™ Program. Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray was a poet, writer, activist, lawyer, and Episcopal priest. She is regarded as one of the most important social justice advocates of the twentieth century. She fought tirelessly for civil rights, women’s rights, and gender equality. Murray was born November 20, 1910, in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Durham, North Carolina. She graduated high school at 15 and moved to New York City to attend Hunter College, where she received a B.A. in English Literature in 1933. In 1938, Murray applied to the all-white University of North Carolina but was rejected. Her case received national publicity and she gained the friendship of Eleanor Roosevelt. Two years later, Murray and a friend were arrested for sitting in the whites-only section on a Virginia bus. This incident led to her decision to become a civil rights lawyer, and she enrolled in the Howard University law program. She graduated in the top of her class in 1944. She was then awarded a prestigious fellowship at Harvard University, but after the award was announced, Harvard Law School rejected her because of her gender. Murray later earned a master’s in law at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1965, she became the first African American to receive a Doctor of Juridical Science degree from Yale Law School. Murray’s 1950 book, States’ Laws on Race and Color was distributed to law libraries, universities, and human-rights organizations. It exposed the extent and absurdity of segregation and was important to the Supreme Court case Brown vs. Board of Education. In 1966, Murray joined Betty Friedan and others to found the National Organization for Women (NOW) but later relinquished a leading role, believing the issues of Black and working-class women were not adequately addressed by the organization. She became the first Black woman to be ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1977. Murray died of cancer on July 1, 1985.* *United States coin images [and text] from the United States Mint. Orders placed on weekends or holidays will be shipped on the next business day. Orders over $200 require signature on delivery. eBay Standard Envelope Service: We ship many coin orders (three or less coins weighing under three ounces) in 2x2 flips using via United States Postal Service (USPS) First-Class mail using eBay Standard Envelope labels. You need to use eBay’s website software to track these envelopes. Note that these envelopes travel through the USPS network slowly. As well, note that USPS may also be slow in updating tracking information to the eBay software. High Speed Sorters: The USPS First-Class mailing system by default processes standard envelopes through high-speed sorters. This can, and does, damage coins. It also can cause other shipping issues, such as delayed delivery. If you DO NOT wish your coins to go through high-speed sorters, you can add a small additional fee ($0.48) to your purchase and we will forward this payment to the USPS for your item as a service for our customers. Your order will not be run through high-speed postal sorters while still benefiting from eBay Envelope's tracking service. This method is highly recommended by us AND meets all of the USPS requirements for sending coins though their system. If you wish this service for your order, choose "First Class" shipping at checkout. Combined Shipping Discount: We cheerfully Combine Shipping charges for all the items in your shopping cart at the time of purchase. This is done automatically for you in eBay's checkout procedure. If there is an issue combining, please message us BEFORE paying the invoice. Once an invoice is paid, we can no longer offer a Combined Shipping discount. Combined shipping is NOT available on items that include free shipping. International Shipping: We will ship allowed items internationally and only through eBay International Shipping. There is no free option for International shipping. General Information All coins are guaranteed authentic - bid with confidence. We do not guarantee grades from Third Party Grading Services. Many less expensive and bulk items make more sense to use a "sample" photograph rather than photographing each individual lot.
