Description: Truly amazing late 1930's/very early 1940's children's Mariachi or Charro suit. These were my father's and his brother's as young children. My father was born in 1936, I included a picture of him on a pony at age two wearing the smaller of the suits, and again a newspaper clipping from 1941 which states that he is three but given the date he would have been 4 1/2. He is also wearing the smaller of the suits in this picture and his brother is wearing the pants from the larger suit at age 6. These little suits are such beautiful quality, and very artfully made. Given their age and having been used by little boys they are in very good condition. They had some dry cleaning tags on them when I pulled them out, so they were put away clean! But from age there is some staining apparent on some of the white decorative details. From what I can see most of the charro suits the designs are embroidered on with thread. The smaller of the suits the embellishments are sewn on very thin leather. The bigger suit is not leather but a sewn on flat textile, like a flat wide string. Both the jackets and pants show some staining and discoloration on the white embellishments. Both suits stitching appears to be beautifully in tact and sturdy, the wool besides the bigger pair of pants which has some little holes (I photographed the most major one, see last photo) is in great shape. The smaller jacket that all the white detailing in leather, the loops that are to join the buttons on the jacket....3 our of four are broken. Both jackets are completely lined with cotton, the vests are also lined with cotton, the fronts are wool and the backs are cotton. The pants are only lined around the waist band. The sombrero in the pictures are a good representation of the condition, the inside has fallen a part a bit and the top of the hat is a bit thread bare, it appears there was an embellishment of some sort on the hat that fell apart, but the decorative embroidery is still in good shape. I have tried to include many photos, please note that IRL the black wool is very black, the photos that I took outdoors make the color look a bit more washed out, so the pictures indoors are more representative of the black wool. The pictures indoors don't totally capture I don't think that the white detailing isn't a super stark clean white. look and the second and third from last photos as it does show a bit better the condition of the white detailing. As far as sizing....there are no tags inside for the size, they may have been custom made but not sure! As I said my father wore the small suit at age two and also around 4 1/2, the nature of these suits was that the were quite slim fitting, and my father was VERY skinny! This suit jacket measure arm pit to arm pit 12", the vest arm pit to arm pit measure 11' across, the pant waist measures 10 1/4" and is 22" long. The bigger suit jacket measure 13" armpit to armpit, the vest 12" and the pant waist is 12" and 23" long.
