Description: Measuring about 5-1/4" x 7-1/2", and 318 pages long, this hardback book is "Nineteen Eighty-Four" by George Orwell. Published in London by Secker & Warburg, it has a publication date of 1950, and is stated to be what I would call the Fourth Printing of the First Edition. In case you want to call it something else, I'll quote verbatim the four lines of printing history that appear on the copyright page, namely: First published 1949Reprinted 1950Reprinted 1950Reset 1950 The ownership signature on the front free end paper appears to be that of Dr. Norman J. Selverstone, and it is datelined "London, February, 1951." Dr. Selverstone, a 1947 graduate of Harvard Medical School, was awarded a Moseley Traveling Scholarship to study cardiology at the Hammersmith Hospital in London, which is where he was in 1950 and 1951. He later went on to become president of the medical staff at the Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as well as an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Harvard Medical School. The book is in good and solid condition, with the pages clean and the binding nice and tight, but the cover is browned or faded, as shown in the pictures. There are also bookstore markings in pencil on the front free end paper (in the area of Dr. Selverstone's inscription). We do not have a dust jacket for it.
