Description: 1958 D Jefferson Nickel ERROR Coin Mint mark - D (filled in) The condition of this coin is what you would expect after changing pockets for the past 65 years. And taking all things into consideration, I would probably say it's in fair condition. The finer detailing is lacking, but all in all, it would be a solid coin to add to any collection. It definitely has TALK APPEAL! Getting to the good stuff (ERRORS): Let's start by saying that this coin is a strong doubled die on the obverse AND reverse A strike through (pattern) can be found - as you look at the coin, you can see lines starting at the center and fanning outward to the rim in the background - kind of like spokes on a bike There are traces of a second (inner) ring running inside the rim on the reverse side of the coin - as if something were rubbing underneath the coin during the minting process Jefferson has a very exaggerated cheekbone, is missing his eye and the tip of his chin is just, gone A die crack is present on the obverse and runs nose to forehead And, as if the above weren't enough, this coin also shows off some pretty decent stamping errors. I would usually say that the "smashed" or "widened" appearance of the lettering could be caused by the doubled die, but these lettering errors stand far apart from typical thinking - just take a look at that "8" in 1958 or the "R" in Pluribus. See what I mean? This Jefferson nickel is definitely a one of a kind coin and would make a great conversation piece for any collector
