For 14 years he played for the Washington Senators. In those 14 years, the Senators finished 4th, once, in Yost’s first year in the majors. Thereafter, the Senators finished 5th 3 times, 6th once, 7th 4 times, and 8th 4 times in an eight team league. In 1959, Washington sent Yost to Detroit. Aging, Yost was rejuvenated in Detroit, leading the league in walks once again with 135 walks after several years of failing to do so. What’s more, he led the league in on base percentage (.435) and runs scored (115). With hitters like Kaline and Kueen hitting behind Yost, he wasn’t walking for nothing, but actually scored runs once in a while.
